Job Responsibilities:
[Macroeconomic Research] - Primary role
- Macroeconomic surveillance and market analysis of Asia Pacific. Monitor and report key country indicators, trends and forecasts.
- Track closely political risk trends in the region both domestically and internationally. Assess any impact to the business environment.
- Produce in-depth country and sector specific research to contribute to business strategy, weighing opportunities and associated risks.
- Sectoral research should provide insights on the banking industry, consumer finance, real estate, and sustainable finance.
- Periodic presentations and update of key risk developments to C-suite level management and internal risk committees.
- Maintain and develop database for deep dive analysis on credit portfolio, internal country rank analysis and wider department use, such as business performance projections.
[Equity Solutions] - Secondary
- Support oversight and administrative tasks related to investee companies and equity funds in Asia Pacific.
- Monitor and track closely market conditions related to investee companies' operating environment.
- Enhance relationships and promote business collaboration between SMBC's investee partners in Asia Pacific and SMFG.
- To handle "business as usual (BAU)" items including but not limited to regulatory/periodic reporting to key stakeholders in Head Office Tokyo and Singapore.
Job Requirements:
- At least 3 years of relevant working experience in macroeconomic research and/or banking industry.
- Strong communication and presentation skills (written/spoken) - Proficient in English, additional proficiency in Japanese is a plus, but not essential.
- Basic familiarity with Bloomberg, Macrobond and/or CEIC. In addition, sourcing local and international domains for industry data and competitor analyses.
- MS office proficiency (Excel, PowerPoint, word) - Preferably, advanced excel in Visual Basic Analysis (VBA) and Business Intelligence (BI) Tools. Coding skills a plus.
