Internal Audit department of SMBC is responsible for examining the overall internal control system including the effectiveness and efficiency of operations and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
IAD conducts internal audits of the operations of all SMBC units and departments. The IAD Asia Pacific team based in Singapore is primarily responsible for the audits of SMBC units and activities in Asia Pacific Division and India Division. However, the team may be called upon to help support the other regions.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and document data analytics routines within internal audit programs, supporting audit planning, testing, and reporting across financial, operational, and regulatory areas.
- Work closely with data owners and IT stakeholders to understand data availability, data flow, and data quality, and identify how enterprise data can be effectively leveraged for audit and risk assessment purposes.
- Build, test, and maintain automated and reusable analytics scripts to extract, transform, analyze, and validate data, enabling full‑population testing to identify control weaknesses, anomalies, and regulatory non‑compliance.
- Collaborate with regional teams to onboard data analytics and artificial intelligence tools and integrate system data into analytics platforms to support continuous auditing and monitoring use cases.
- Contribute to the development of data analytics capability across IADAP by mentoring team members, sharing best practices, and supporting training initiatives to uplift analytics and data literacy skills.
- Participate in regional and global working groups to advance Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence initiatives, including the standardization and scaling of analytics use cases across regions.
- Support continuous monitoring, continuous auditing, and audit advisory activities by providing data‑driven insights and analytics support, as assigned by the Head of IADAP.
- Travel may be required (up to ~20%) to support audit and analytics initiatives across APD & ID, covering multiple jurisdictions including Singapore, India, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Accountancy or Computing
- Strong working knowledge in data visualisation tools & programming languages such as Power BI, Databricks, Python etc
- Prior experience as data scientist/data analyst in banking preferred
- Certification/Diploma in Data Analytics preferred
- Analytical, meticulous and able to work under tight timelines
- Ability to communicate complex data insights effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Team oriented
