Assistant Vice President - Change & Transformation Manager, Business Governance and Control

SMBC is a major international bank with a leading position in the GFIG (Global financial Institutions), Loan Capital Markets / Syndications, Global Markets and Treasury, Corporate Banking, Project Finance and Sponsored / Leverage Finance markets. Reporting to the Head of Business Governance and Control, this position will lead and coordinate change initiatives and transformation projects within the SMBC SYD branch. The responsibilities of this role include collaborating with local, regional and global teams, ensure timely and effective delivery of projects, enhancing process & controls and driving operational excellence through strategic change management frameworks.

 

 

This position will be responsible for the following:

 

  • Lead change management activities with a regulatory focus (but not limited to) within a structured framework, including strategic planning, impact analysis, and organizational readiness evaluation.
  • Design and implement strategic approaches to change management and support ongoing operational improvements.
  • Work together with the respective Head Office teams in Tokyo and Singapore to manage the performance and timely delivery of projects. Conduct and coordinate UAT where required
  • Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder discussions, project workshops, workstream sessions, and Steering Committee meetings.
  • Co-ordination and preparation of governance meetings, minutes / acceptance process where required, include change approval requests and escalation to management
  • Facilitate training and communication to ensure smooth adoption of changes, including development/delivery of specialized training materials.
  • Ensure project resources (internal) are effectively allocated
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks that could affect successful outcome of projects
  • Oversee and execute the implementation of changes, releases to Production systems and process & control implementation.
  • Evaluate change-related risks and resistance, providing actionable strategies to minimize negative impacts.
  • Contribute and assist in the provision of value-add risk advisory services to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of processes and controls.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews to evaluate change effectiveness and lessons learned.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and risk management through technology solutions.

 

 

To succeed in this role, you will have:

 

  • 6 - 8 years’ experience in project delivery, transformation program, and governance management in Banking environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Proactive self-starter, comfortable maintaining structure in unstructured environments.
  • Solid understanding of people, process, technology, and partner dynamics in risk management, IT and business service delivery.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experienced with Project, Visio, and SharePoint.
  • Experience managing complex change and digital transformation projects, preferably in the banking or financial services sector.
  • Strong personal organisation skills and efficient time management with an ability to meet deadlines using a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with ITIL framework and the value of blameless postmortems for continuous improvement is a plus.
