Assistant Vice President - Sponsor Coverage

SMBC is a major international bank with a leading position in the GFIG (Global financial Institutions), Loan Capital Markets / Syndications, Global Markets and Treasury, Corporate Banking, Project Finance and Sponsored / Leverage Finance markets. Working in conjunction with the Head of GFIG and Sponsor Coverage Australia, this position will manage global and regional sponsors with strategies across Private Equity, Infrastructure, Real Estate and Credit Teams. The position will support the Sponsor Coverage business in Asia excluding Japan (Singapore, Hong Kong, India, and Australia) including origination, strategic initiatives, and account planning within the broader global sponsor coverage framework of SMBC.

 

This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Developing and maintaining commercial relationship with sponsors in Asia (Excluding-Japan).
  • Coordinating institutional relationship with sponsors across management and working/deal-level members and across sector/product verticals.
  • Identifying and originating deal opportunities from private equity clients with focus on credit solutions including leveraged finance, debt capital markets (bridge to bond), unitranche, TLBs, structured equity financings, fund finance, etc.
  • The role would also liaise and co-work with SMBC group members to deliver financial solutions across different platforms including mergers & acquisitions, debt capital markets, mezzanine, etc.
  • The role would provide selective execution support for fund-level transaction banking including credit lines, FX, deposits, remittances, etc.
  • Establishing marketing strategy and dedicated account planning for each sponsor in conjunction with the global sponsor coverage members in New York, London, and Japan.
  • Cross-sell the banks products and services including those provided through subsidiaries.

 

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • 4 + years of prior working experience in an institutional / investment bank with execution experience which may include mergers & acquisitions, equity capital markets, debt capital markets or leverage finance.
  • Ability to make independent judgement after thorough information gathering, processing and analysis is done.
  • Exploring new clients, products, market, and related strategies to broaden relationship and service offerings to private equity industry – including market trend analysis, sponsor portfolio analysis, internal education, data distribution, project TFTs, management consultations, etc.
  • Resourcefulness, planning & organization, leadership, goal- achieving, relationship, communication, interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal business communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • University graduate majoring in banking and finance.
