Job Summary
 
- To assist and support Chief Sustainability Officer (“CSO”) in executing sustainability and social value creation strategies and initiatives across the organization.
- To take the operational lead for sustainability projects, ensuring effective implementation and follow-up.
 
Job Responsibilities
- To support CSO in overseeing SMBCMY’s sustainability and social value creation strategies and initiatives.
- To act as Secretariat of Sustainability Committee, preparing materials and follow-up actions as needed.
- To serve as a key liaison between various departments and CSO to facilitate communication, coordination, and reporting on sustainability and social value creation-related matters.
- To support relevant departments in timely and accurate reporting related to sustainability and social value creation to CSO, Sustainability Committee, Board of Directors and relevant committees.
- To monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations in Malaysia and SMBC Group’s sustainability policies, promptly escalating any breaches to CSO.
- To communicate with local authorities, regulators, SMBC Head Office (Japan) and Regional Office (Singapore) on sustainability and social value creation-related matters as instructed by CSO.
- To lead or assist in organizing ESG-related events and initiatives, representing SMBCMY as instructed by CSO.
- To handle any other matters instructed by CSO.
 
Job Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/ Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Finance, Engineering or a related field. 
- Preferably with minimum 5 years of extensive experience with focus in sustainability or corporate social responsibility or environmental management.
- Strong understanding in of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and standards, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), GRI (Global Reporting Initiative), and others.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to environmental protection and corporate social responsibility.
- Strategic and financial frameworks to make a strong business case for sustainability initiatives.
- Awareness of current sustainability trends and challenges within various industries and best practices.
- Proven track record of leading successful sustainability programs and initiatives within and across departments to integrate sustainability into core business operations.
- Ability to communicate sustainability goals and achievements effectively to all stakeholders.
- Creative thinking, critical thinking, strategic planning and implementation.
