Due to continued growth, an opportunity has arisen within our Global Markets & Treasury Department to lead GM&T Planning in Australia. This role oversees planning activities across Global Markets Sales & Trading, Treasury and related functions, while supporting new product initiatives, budget delivery, business optimisation and operational outcomes. The successful candidate will work closely with local and regional stakeholders to drive growth, enhance performance and support strategic objectives across the GMTA business. 

Reporting to the Co-Head of Global Markets & Treasury, Australia this position will be responsible for:

• Lead, support and develop team members, including completing performance reviews, development plans and providing day-to-day guidance.
• Act as a senior leader within Global Markets & Treasury by demonstrating SMBC’s values and behaviours, collaborating strongly across local and regional teams, and drive business outcomes.
• Support the Co-Heads of Global Markets & Treasury, Australia, with Sales & Trading strategies (including FX and IRS), Asset and Liability Management (ALM), regulatory requirements, and the introduction of new products across GMTA.
• Promptly report any significant issues, irregularities or losses to the Co-Heads of Global Markets & Treasury, Australia.
• Drive and deliver key business initiatives in line with cross border SMBC Group policies and procedures, considering Head Office, APAC and local requirements.
• Oversee dealing authority applications for Global Markets Sales & Trading and credit applications for Treasury.
• Review Global Markets & Treasury profit performance and provide recommendations to improve efficiency, business outcomes and strategic focus.
• Assess key transactions and provide insights on industry trends to support business objectives.
• Monitor and maintain key Head Office and local risk controls, ensuring compliance with approved limits.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• 15 + years banking and finance experience within Global Markets, Treasury or the Financial markets sector.
• Strong financial and analytical skills, able to understand and deliver Global Markets and Treasury infrastructure, history of delivery within the environment.
• Understand key local regulatory frameworks under which banks operate (e.g. APS210/APS117) and work with cross border policies and procedures
• Understand and drive outcomes for LCR, NSFR, IRRBB, EAR, COF, FTP.
• Well‑developed interpersonal and influencing capabilities, with experience managing key internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Ability to deliver high‑quality presentations to senior internal stakeholders and external clients.
• Strong written and verbal business communication skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• University qualification in Banking, Finance, or a related discipline.
