Key Responsibilities
Product & Use-Case Strategy & Roadmap

Define and maintain a multi-year analytics product and use-case roadmap aligned to SMBC’s APAC business priorities, client strategies, and global CDAO direction

Identify, evaluate, and prioritise high-value analytics use cases across client, market, risk, and operational domains
-
Ensure analytics products are designed for scalability, reusability, and adoption — moving beyond bespoke analysis to embedded, production-grade solutions

Drive the commercialisation of analytics capabilities, establishing clear value propositions for each product and use case
-
Track product lifecycle from ideation through delivery, measuring adoption and return on analytics investment
Business Demand Management & Prioritisation

Establish and operate a structured demand intake and prioritisation framework for analytics requests across APAC business lines
-
Act as the central coordination point between business stakeholders and CDAO delivery teams, ensuring demand is qualified, scoped, and aligned to strategic priorities
-
Manage the analytics portfolio pipeline, balancing capacity, complexity, and business impact to optimise resource allocation
-
Provide transparency to senior leadership on demand volumes, pipeline health, and delivery outcomes through regular reporting and governance forums
-
Ensure all analytics engagements are underpinned by clear business cases with measurable commercial, risk, or productivity outcomes
Market & Franchise Engagement

Build and sustain deep partnerships with senior business leaders, relationship managers, and franchise heads across APAC markets
-
Proactively engage with market and franchise stakeholders to identify emerging analytics opportunities, anticipate demand, and shape analytics roadmaps
-
Represent the CDAO at senior business forums, steering committees, and strategy sessions, influencing prioritisation and investment decisions
-
Drive analytics awareness, literacy, and adoption across the franchise, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making
-
Ensure analytics insights are contextualised to market and franchise needs, delivering actionable intelligence rather than generic reporting
External Partnerships & Client Advisory

Develop and manage strategic partnerships with external analytics, technology, and data vendors (e.g., consulting firms, fintechs, data providers) to augment SMBC’s analytics capabilities
-
Provide analytics advisory services to key clients, leveraging SMBC’s data and analytics assets to deepen client relationships and create differentiated value
-
Identify opportunities for co-creation and joint analytics initiatives with clients and partners, positioning SMBC as a thought leader in data-driven banking
-
Ensure all external engagements comply with SMBC’s data governance, confidentiality, and third-party risk management frameworks
-
Monitor market trends, competitive intelligence, and emerging analytics innovations to inform strategy and partnership decisions
Governance, Risk & Responsible Analytics

Ensure all analytics engagements and products operate within SMBC’s data governance, risk, and control frameworks
-
Embed responsible analytics and AI principles, including transparency, auditability, and appropriate use controls
-
Partner closely with risk, compliance, and legal teams to manage analytics-related risk across all engagement streams
People, Capability & Performance

Lead, develop, and mentor a team of professionals across the four sub-functions, building a high-performing, diverse, and commercially minded analytics engagement capability
-
Establish KPIs and value metrics to track engagement quality, adoption, business impact, and return on analytics investments
-
Foster a culture of analytical excellence, client-centricity, curiosity, and continuous improvement
-
Attract and retain top talent, ensuring the team maintains deep expertise in analytics strategy, stakeholder management, and commercial advisory
Required Qualifications & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative, analytical, or business discipline (e.g., Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, MBA)

15+ years of experience in analytics, strategy, consulting, data, or technology roles within large, complex financial institutions or professional services firms
-
Proven track record of leading analytics engagement, advisory, or business partnering functions at scale
-
Demonstrated ability to translate analytics capabilities into measurable business value and commercial outcomes
-
Strong understanding of modern analytics platforms, tools, and operating models (e.g., Azure, Databricks, Power BI, Alteryx, Collibra)
-
Exceptional stakeholder engagement, influencing, and communication skills at C-suite and senior leadership level
-
Experience managing external partnerships, vendor relationships, and client advisory engagements
-
Deep understanding of banking products, markets, and regulatory landscape across APAC
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s, Master’s degree or MBA

Experience in management consulting or analytics advisory roles serving financial services clients
-
Familiarity with BCBS239, MAS, HKMA, and other APAC regulatory frameworks as they relate to data and analytics

Track record of building and scaling analytics teams across multiple geographies
