SMBC is accelerating our Asia Centric strategy and promoting the sustainable growth of SMBC Group companies in growing markets in the region. The role carries out strategic planning and conducting oversight of affiliates and subsidiaries in Indonesia in banking, namely retail, digital, SME and wholesale banking, and non-banking businesses with an aim to promote business strategy and business performance. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct oversight of banking and non-banking businesses in Indonesia to drive sustainable growth including formulation of strategies and strategic policies for the bank’s mid to long term plan
  • Review of subsidiaries’ business plans, business targets and budgets with alignment of strategies with the budget, business targets, and risk appetite
  • Establish key performance indicators and conduct periodic monitoring of progress of key performance indicators
  • Assess, monitor and ensure robust framework for promotion of business of subsidiaries including alignment with risk appetite frameworks and in compliance with regulations at head office and local regulations.
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy in reporting and providing periodic concise/risk-focused input and updates to stakeholders in head office and regional office.
  • Manage strategic projects as such as overseeing project management office for mergers & acquisitions from due diligence processes until post-merger integration.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree qualifications with min. 20 years working experience in the Banking sector with experience in dealing with business promotion and business strategies for wholesale banking business, including corporate banking of large corporates, transaction banking, financial institutions business.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in formulating strategies for mid-term plan, new product implementation, and driving strategic projects.
  • Experience in a head office or regional office role working with overseas branches or subsidiaries, as well as overseas working experience will be desirable.
  • Enterprise leadership on oversight of the business, with effective engagement between 1st Line of Defence, and 2nd and 3rd Line of Defence.  
  • Leadership skills to guide team members to achieve strategic targets and formulate effective strategic initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities (verbal and written) including excellent presentation skills, effective cross-cultural communication, and stakeholder management capabilities. 
  • Proficiency in both English and Japanese is highly preferred as this role needs to review reports in Japanese for reporting to Head Office in Japan. This role also requires frequent communication with stakeholders and counterparts in Tokyo Head Office.
