Senior Analyst, Global Trade Finance, Strategic Business Planning & Promotion 1

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Initiative Support

  • Support the preparation of materials for internal strategic initiatives and business planning related to trade finance and adjacent businesses, such as flow banking (including deposit mobilization and FX transaction growth).
  • Conduct industry and market research to support the identification of trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Assist in collaborating with internal planning teams, country partners, and in-country coverage teams across regions (not limited to APAC).
  • Help translate strategic concepts into clear, data-driven presentations for senior management.

 

Client Proposal Development

  • Assist in the preparation of pitch books and proposal materials tailored to client needs in trade finance and related areas.
  • Support front-line sales teams with market data, analysis, and customized solution inputs.
  • Ensure proposal materials are prepared in line with SMBC’s risk appetite and product capabilities.
  • Participate in client meetings as required to support presentations and capture feedback.

 

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work with coverage teams and product specialists to support strategic and operational alignment.
  • Assist in facilitating communication between strategic planning and client-facing teams.
  • Support the execution of initiatives such as Trade Working Capital Solutions sales activities and country-specific promotions.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in trade finance, corporate banking, investment banking, research/consulting firms, or related areas.
  • Basic to solid understanding of trade finance products, market trends, customer financials, and regulatory requirements in the APAC region.
  • Strong analytical, coordination, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and regions.
  • Business fluency in English is essential, as this role requires written and verbal communication with the Tokyo office.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to cross-functional projects.
  • Strong commitment to delivering high-quality client service and supporting internal business functions.
  • Ability to support trade finance deal origination activities in collaboration with senior team members and marketing managers.
  • Flexibility to perform other ad hoc duties as assigned.
