Due to expansion, we are hiring 2 new positions – Senior Analyst & Assistant Vice President in our Global Trade Finance Department, Australia. Reporting to the Executive Director, these positions will be responsible for the origination, execution, and ongoing management of trade finance transactions with corporate and financial institution clients in Australia. This includes conventional documentary trade, open account solutions, and structured trade products. The role supports the growth of SMBC’s trade finance business and contributes to transaction banking business, including deposit mobilization and FX.
This position is responsible for:
- Actively engage with clients to promote the full suite of trade finance products, including conventional documentary trade (e.g., letters of credit, guarantees, SBLCs), working capital solutions (e.g., receivables and supply chain finance), and structured trade (e.g., inventory, pre-payment, and pre-export finance).
- Collaborate with Relationship Manager to develop and execute marketing plans aimed at increasing trade finance transaction volumes and profitability.
- Assist in structuring trade finance solutions and support the preparation and review of credit applications and documentation for both new and existing facilities.
- Conduct market and client analysis to identify new business opportunities, generate ideas to grow trade balances, and enhance SMBC’s wallet share.
- Support the preparation of high-quality pitch books and client presentations tailored to trade finance needs, in coordination with internal and regional teams.
- Coordinate with internal departments—including credit, operations, compliance, and trade processing—to ensure timely and accurate execution of trade finance transactions.
- Assist in responding to client Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and contribute to the development of customized marketing materials and proposals.
- Perform administrative tasks related to marketing and execution, ensuring smooth transaction processing and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with regional and global teams to ensure consistent client experience across markets.
- Promote integration of trade finance solutions with flow banking products to enhance wallet share.
To succeed, you will have:
- 5+ years’ experience for AVP and 3 + years’ experience for Senior Analyst in corporate banking or trade finance in Australia.
- Solid understanding of trade finance products (documentary trade, bank guarantees, receivables finance, supply chain finance), market trends, and regulatory requirements in Australia gained through practical experience.
- Basic understanding of cash management, deposit, FX products.
- Experience in preparing trade finance credit applications and reviewing trade facility documentation.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively across departments and regions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Flexibility in working hours to accommodate business needs across time zones.
- Preferably, knowledge or experience in commodity-related trade finance transactions.
- Tertiary qualification such as an undergraduate degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
