The Vice President, Trade & Working Capital Solutions (Energy Infrastructure & Commodities), is a senior execution and origination role within GTFD, based in Singapore, with regional responsibility across APAC including India. The role is accountable for driving business growth in structured and conventional trade finance, originating and executing complex transactions, and acting as a key product and credit partner to relationship management teams.
The VP is expected to demonstrate strong ownership of client relationships, deal structuring, and internal coordination, while contributing to SMBC’s broader flow banking strategy, including deposits, FX, and balance sheet optimization.
Job Responsibilities
Business Development & Deal Origination:
- Originate, structure, and execute Structured Trade Finance (STF) and Working Capital Solutions transactions for clients across the Commodities, Energy, and Infrastructure sectors in APAC, including India.
- Partner closely with Relationship Managers, sector specialists, and regional coverage teams to identify client needs and deliver tailored trade finance solutions.
- Drive sustainable growth in trade finance flows, including receivables, payables, inventory financing, and conventional trade products.
- Contribute to client acquisition, wallet share expansion, and the development of long-term strategic relationships.
- Actively promote SMBC’s trade and working capital capabilities within the sector, with a particular focus on producers and smelters across APAC.
Deal Structuring, Credit & Execution Ownership:
- Take lead responsibility for structuring complex STF transactions, including financial analysis, risk assessment, and documentation strategy.
- Coordinate end-to-end credit processes, working closely with Credit, Legal, Compliance, and Operations to secure timely approvals.
- Ensure transactions meet SMBC’s risk appetite, credit standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage transaction execution from origination through closing, ensuring high-quality delivery and client satisfaction.
Client & Stakeholder Management:
- Serve as a key point of contact for selected regional and global clients, providing product expertise and execution leadership.
- Coordinate with global GTFD offices to deliver consistent solutions and leverage global best practices.
- Represent GTFD in internal forums and client discussions as a subject matter expert in trade and working capital solutions.
Product Integration & Flow Banking Support:
- Drive integrated solutions combining structured trade finance, conventional trade products, deposits, and FX to enhance client value and profitability.
- Support strategic initiatives to strengthen SMBC’s flow banking franchise within the Commodities & Energy sector.
- Identify opportunities to optimize balance sheet usage and improve return on capital.
Job Requirements
- 8–12 years of relevant experience in trade finance, structured trade, or working capital solutions, preferably within Commodities, Energy, or Infrastructure sectors.
- Strong hands-on experience in structuring and executing STF and conventional trade finance transactions.
- Solid understanding of credit analysis, risk management, and approval processes.
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders across functions and regions.
- Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset with the ability to operate independently while collaborating within a team environment.
- Demonstrated flow banking mindset, with the ability to identify and execute cross‑selling opportunities in deposits and FX alongside trade finance solutions.
- Fluency in English required; Japanese language skills are an advantage.
