Vice President, GTFD - Trade & Working Capital Solutions (Commodities & Energy)

Business Development & Deal Origination:
- Assist in identifying and developing Structured Trade Finance (STF) opportunities across APAC (including India)
- Support the execution of strategies to grow trade finance flows, including receivables, payables, and conventional trade finance products.
- Contribute to client acquisition and relationship management efforts in the commodities and energy sectors.
Credit & Deal Execution:
- Work closely with internal stakeholders including the Credit Department to support deal structuring and approval processes.
- Ensure high standards of credit quality and risk management for STF transactions.
Client Engagement & Coordination:
- Collaborate with SMBC’s global GTFD offices to support client coverage and knowledge sharing.
- Act as a point of contact for regional teams, ensuring consistent client experience and product delivery.
Internal Enablement:
- Participate in internal training initiatives to promote awareness of trade finance products.
- Share market insights and deal experience to enhance team capabilities.
Product Integration & Flow Banking Support:
- Support the integration of structured and conventional trade finance solutions to enhance client value.
- Assist in initiatives aimed at increasing SMBC’s deposit base and FX transaction volumes.
Trade System & Platform Utilization:
- Utilize trade finance platforms and systems to support deal execution, client onboarding, and transaction monitoring.
- Provide feedback on system enhancements and contribute to digitalization initiatives within the trade finance function.
Client Data Analysis & Dashboard Utilization:
- Leverage internal dashboards and customer data analytics tools to deeply analyze client behavior, transaction patterns, and wallet share.
- Use data-driven insights to identify cross-selling opportunities and tailor trade finance solutions to client needs.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 5–8 years of relevant experience in trade finance, preferably within the commodities and energy sectors.
- Working knowledge of structured and conventional trade finance products.
- Strong analytical skills and understanding of trade flows and transaction structures.
- Familiarity with credit processes and risk management practices.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work across functions and regions.
- Business fluency in both English and Japanese is essential, as this role requires the ability to write and communicate effectively with our Tokyo office.
