This position will be responsible for reviewing and approving proposals of credit, obligor /facility grading, and credit strategy for Securitisation customers across APAC region, with opportunity to work across non-Japanese corporate, as well as structured finance such as LBO, Project Finance and Real Estate Finance. The incumbent will work with origination teams and seek approval from the relevant authority in the Regional Office or Head Office as necessary.

 

This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Review credit applications submitted by front office. Ensure all credit risks are adequately identified and addressed, the request is within risk appetite and meets compliance requirements as outlined in SMBC policies and guidelines.
  • Make an executive summary, form an opinion, and seek approval from the relevant authority according to internal criteria.
  • Maintain and enhance market knowledge through ongoing research, attending industry conferences and training opportunities. This may require domestic and or international travel.
  • Review and assess Credit Monitoring applications submitted by front office. This is to monitor the credit standing of an obligor in a timely manner in order to take necessary countermeasures at an early stage.
  • Prepare reports related to internal and external reporting and inspection processes, such as newly approved large-scale credit, quarterly internal self-assessment and regulatory reviews, as required.
  • Answer queries from Credit Review Department, external Audit, Regulators and other areas as required.
  • Answer “Recommendation Requests” submitted by other credit departments regarding transactions involving credit risks of borrowers in charge.

 

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • 7+ years’ experience in a credit approval, portfolio management or front office position with a bank, financial institution or rating agency across securitisation, leveraged finance, project finance and/or corporate and institutional clients.
  • Experience and strong understanding of Securitisation, including key risk drivers. Experience across multiple asset classes would be advantageous.
  • A solid understanding of financial statements, financial products and debt facility documentation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of banking practices and processes of the role of the credit department within a bank.
  • Strong level of numeracy, financial analysis skills and financial modelling skills.
  • Influencing skills both in writing through presenting a persuasive argument and verbally.
  • Ability to condense complex issues into a readable format in report writing or through other communications.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a business relevant field.
