Reporting to the Executive Director, GTBD, Australia; this is a newly created opportunity in Australia and the successful candidate will drive sales and business development for Transaction Banking Solutions (TBS) and deposit products in the Sydney branch. This role focuses on originating and executing transaction banking opportunities, enhancing client relationships across Japanese and non-Japanese segments, and collaborating with internal teams to deliver tailored solutions. The Vice President will also support product development initiatives, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and contribute to achieving revenue and growth targets set by the GTBD APAC Regional Head.

 

This position is responsible for:

  • Originate and execute Transaction Banking transactions, focusing on deposits and liquidity products.
  • Pitch alongside Relationship Managers as a specialist in Transaction Banking, Deposits, and related services.
  • Execute marketing strategies and identify client-centered opportunities for TBS and deposit products.
  • Develop long term business relationships with the Japanese and Non-Japanese Corporate Banking teams.
  • Collaborate with GTBD Product teams and Head Office to develop new TB solutions or enhance existing products.
  • Handling administrative tasks, providing customer support enhancing TBS products, while ensuring successful account management with various departments of SMBC Sydney and GTBD APAC.
  • Act as an interface between users, TBSD, and Back Office for system-related issues.
  • Build a strong compliance and risk management culture by adhering to SMBC’s policies and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in appropriate business associations, networks and activities relevant to SMBC's interests.
  • Stay aware of market trends and competitive landscape (pricing, services, features) to ensure effective positioning.
  • Report to and co-work with branch management on a regular basis/as needed.

 

To succeed, you will have:

  • At least 7 years of experience in Transaction Banking, with strong expertise in customer sales, banking operations, and systems.
  • Proven track record in strengthening business sales pipelines and achieving revenue targets.
  • Ability to lead strategic discussions with senior management and influence decision-making.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with a proactive and team-oriented mindset. Strong customer centric mindset.
  • Strong influencing skills both in writing through presenting a persuasive argument and verbally when handling objections.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with a focus on ability to manage multiple projects and meet agreed timeframes.
  • Ability to condense complex issues into a readable format in report writing or through other communications.
  • Proficiency in Japanese (business-level verbal and written) is desirable.
