Job Responsibilities

 

Strategic Initiative Support

  • Develop materials to support internal strategic initiatives and business planning related to trade finance and adjacent businesses, such as flow banking (including deposit mobilization and FX transaction growth).
  • Conduct industry and market research to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal planning teams, country partners, and in-country coverage teams across regions (not limited to APAC) to formulate actionable strategies.
  • Translate strategic concepts into clear, data-driven presentations for senior management.

 

Client Proposal Development

  • Create high-quality pitch books and proposal materials tailored to client needs in trade finance and related areas.
  • Support front-line sales teams with customized solutions and market insights.
  • Ensure proposals are aligned with SMBC’s risk appetite and product capabilities.
  • Participate in client meetings to present proposals and gather feedback.

 

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with coverage teams and product specialists to ensure strategic and operational alignment.
  • Facilitate communication between strategic planning and client-facing teams.
  • Support the execution of initiatives such as Trade Working Capital Solutions sales activities and country-specific promotions.

 

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in trade finance (strongly preferred), corporate banking, investment banking, research/consulting firms, or related areas.
  • Solid understanding of trade finance products, market trends, customer financials, and regulatory requirements in the APAC region.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills to collaborate effectively across departments and regions.
  • Proficiency in English; Japanese language skills are a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and mentor junior team members.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality client service and supporting internal business functions.
  • Capable of originating potential trade finance deals in collaboration with marketing managers.
  • Flexibility to perform other ad hoc duties as assigned.
